ABOUT THE NURSERY SCHOOL AT ST. DUNSTAN'S
The Nursery School at St. Dunstan’s provides a unique experience which focuses on each child’s growth, development and needs. Our goal is to foster a positive attitude toward self, school, and learning.
To develop appropriate socialization skills
To enhance your child’s intrinsic creativity and imagination
To enable each child to progress at his or her own pace
To encourage the further development of fine motor and gross motor skills
To provide a solid readiness foundation for further education and life experiences
Both the teacher and assistant teacher assigned to each class are experienced and dedicated professionals, who are devoted to the education and well being of our children. Our teacher/child ratio is well above state regulations, and all staff members are CPR and First-Aid certified. A Board of Trustees, comprised of volunteer parents, is the governing body of the school and sets the policies and regulations.
Safety & Facilities
A well equipped, spacious environment which includes a fenced outdoor play area
provides a cheerful and appealing atmosphere. All doors to the school remain locked during school hours, and all visitors must be granted access before entering the building. All students and teachers participate in monthly fire drills as well as lock-down procedures, in the event of an emergency. All grounds are regularly inspected for safety, and exceed all state regulations.
Parents are responsible for transportation to & from school, and for the formation of carpools. Class lists are provided at the start of school to assist the parents in making contact with other families. Children are dropped-off and picked up at the front door, where they are greeted and assisted by staff members. Name cards are provided for car visors, and children are only released to those with proper authorization. Car seats and booster seats are required when dropping-off, or picking-up a child.
Communication is a vital component to the success of our school. Parents are continually informed of school events, changes to the calendar and weekly activities through our Director’s weekly e-blast updates and newsletters from your child’s teacher. Our website and Facebook page also serve as reminders for upcoming deadlines, events and fundraisers.
Calendar & Closings
School begins in September and ends in June, and closely follows the Township of Roxbury's decisions in regards to delays and closings. As a private school, we operate a different calendar than Roxbury regarding to snow days and in-service days.
